Jacky Redgate
"The Sydney-based artist Jacky Redgate has been exhibiting for the past 25 years. She is currently living in Sydney and is a lecturer at the University of Wollongong. Redgate's practice has moved between photography and sculpture – each discipline informing the other. The recent survey exhibition Jacky Redgate: Life of the System 1980-2003 was initiated at the Contemporary Art Centre of South Australia and was shown with new work at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney in 2005–2006.
The writer Michael Desmond in the monograph essay ‘Imagining Space’ writes: 'Redgate's work contrasts a remarkable visual clarity of the images with a veiled ambiguity of meaning. Her combinations of image, object and text toy with the possibilities of meaning outside aesthetic conventions, though always with an ironic glance back to the conditions of art history. Clues and references, hints and quotes–in the allusion of scholarly and literary traditions–are scattered throughout her work, to entice the viewer to imaginative speculation of thoughtful introspection' (Jacky Redgate: 1980–2003, [monograph], Contemporary Art Centre of South Australia: Adelaide, 2005.)"
