Di Barrett
Di Barrett has been exhibiting extensively in Type C photography and digital photomedia for the past 17 years. Her artwork critically examines the status of women within Western culture.
“Generally speaking women are led to believe they are inadequate in comparison to the opposite sex. My work over the years has addressed issues associated with this dilemma. More recently I have been responding to the notion of the lack of choice by women – being an object of desire. Artwork titles such as ‘does not play well with others’, ‘inclined to talk too much’, ‘read my lips fuck off!!!’ and ‘there’s somethin’ fishy going on’ aim to enforce the strength of women and their place within Western culture by the use of text and the visual image. My identity and beliefs strongly underpin my artwork.”
