“My photographs record the allure of beauty, and the abject associations of aging and decay, in objects reminiscent of the body and mortality. Baroque drapes are symbolic of sensuous entrapment, yet also suggest a funeral shroud. The preserved sugar perfection of a wedding cake turns towards decomposition, and flowers are exquisite corpses, highlighting the evanescence of existence. My subjects are fixed – virtually embalmed – through the photographic process, and thus raise the inevitable connection between photography and death.”
